May 1, 2009 - Ekin Doesn't Fear Middle Age -Telephone Interview
Ekin is not at all worried by being 42 this year. He said " Danger makes you feel alive." In his newest movie Claustrophobia he plays a married manager who has an illicit affair with one of his subordinates, played by Karena Lam. In the movie, neither party feels able to talk about their emotions.
A few days ago Ekin accepted a telephone interview. He acknowledged that his personality has undergone change, commonly referred to as " sit indefinitely" Being asked to act as an office couple, from his point of view is torture, but he also believes that currently people spend more times with co-workers than with family members, easy for relationships to grow.
Performers work from morning to night is it easy to portray fake relationships?
Ekin didn't sidestep the question, "It is, I have filmed fake relationships many times, but some of them become like my "family" I think of Karena and Shu Qi that way.
According to reports Claustrophobia has been well received overseas. However in Hong Kong there has been a box office difference. Ekin hears the problem, but he not at all aggravated, his mood is extremely serene, " I anticipated this, Claustrophobia was not filmed for the box office. It is a Literature and Art Film and has a small budget. However at the end of the year I filmed Storm Warriors."
Just like in Rule#1 Ekin played a lead role, and the movie surpassed expectations, but in Hong Kong it was the same. Ekin sighs " It was a difference in publicity, the theater's showing the movie were not in the center of town but in rather remote areas."
For the first time Ekin participated at the Hong Kong International Film Festival to herald in advance Storm Warriors. " I rarely think advance notice is a good idea, but Storm Warriors is really good looking, the acrobatic skill is strong." Ekin's cartoon character heroes have departed, now he approaches 42 years old. He already enters middle age. Does he feel it is a mid-life crisis?
Ekin answers directly, " I think you need danger to know you exist, people always want to accept change, I think the present stage is very good, I'm quite happy, compared with before I am more open. I study singing, do charity events, also take some advanced studies, my days are very rich and full.
Ekin has experienced low points in his career before. How does he weather these kinds of crisis?
" Extreme happiness and extreme pain are the same, When you reach the maximum top you are unlikely to be aware you will face a crisis, I, of course, was very sad, but I try to have abandon everything. Forget another return, think about making an adjustment."
Ekin thinks filming movies is important, but he revealed to reporters that he is very desirous of re-entering the music industry. In the next 6 months release an album, and also hopes there will be an opportunity for a concert. Ekin's sound quality although characteristic, but he is not singer class, he maybe recognizes this point, currently he is intensively practicing singing. so as to entertain his concert guests.
His tone is excited,"I have very many movie themes all can be recorded....."
To produce an album in a weak market one cannot help but praise Ekin's courage.
